Actron cp9580 Review

The Actron cp9580 Auto-Scanner Plus with Code Connect does way more than just display the trouble codes and definitions seen in other hand-held scan tools. At the touch of a button it can also actually help prioritize troubleshooting using the top reported fixes related to these codes, specific to your vehicle’s make, model, year and engine.

The “top reported fix” is the most probable solution to the vehicle’s problem and is a shortcut for troubleshooting efforts. Auto-Scanner Plus will indicate on screen which codes have the Code Connect details available. Then it’s a simple push of the button to get the Code Connect information. These actual vehicle fixes have been reported and then verified by the Actron team of ASE certified technicians.

How To Connect An OBD ii Scanner To Your Car

Connecting an OBD ii scanner to your car should be relatively simple. All cars in the U.S from 1996 onwards are by law required to have an OBD ii connector installed.

The female 16 pin connector is usually located on the driver’s side under the dash. Some other locations where the connector might be found include: under the steering wheel, the driver’s foot well, the area between the driver and passenger seat, behind the ash tray, under the passenger seat, and over the passenger door.

To connect the OBD ii Scanner to your car you plug the end of the included cable with the 16-pin connector to the female 16-pin port, and then connect the other end of the cable to the OBD ii reader. It’s that simple.

Also, ALWAYS make sure your car is turned off when connecting your OBD ii scanner to your car for safety reasons.

OBD ii Scanner – Should I Get One?

Is an OBD ii Scanner for you? Great question! If you are mechanically minded or just want to know what’s wrong with your car before you bring it to the mechanics then you should definitely get an OBD ii scanner.

By having an OBD ii scanner you will be able to locate your car’s problems via your car’s computer and then either fix it yourself if you are mechanically minded (saving you big bucks!) or you will know exactly what is wrong with your car before you bring it to your mechanic or dealership (stopping you from getting ripped off)! Either way it’s a win win scenario.

What Is An OBD ii Scanner?

An OBD ii Scanner is an electronic device that plugs into your car’s computer via a diagnostic port (usually located under the dash) which gathers technical data.

The data is then read by the scanner and if any troubles are noted the scanner will relay diagnostic trouble codes which will identify what problems your car is experiencing and allow you to locate the problem and fix it.

Most OBD ii scanners work on vehicles from 1996 and newer.
